Georgia Homeschool Letter of Intent Template
This letter serves as formal notification of our intention to establish and maintain a home study program in compliance with the Georgia Home Study Law (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-690). This letter is submitted to the Georgia Department of Education and the local superintendent at the beginning of each school year, within 30 days after establishment of the homeschool and no later than September 1.

We, the undersigned, are submitting this letter of intent to notify the local superintendent and the Georgia Department of Education of our decision to homeschool our child (or children) for the upcoming school year as per the regulations stated in the Georgia Home Study Law. We understand the legal requirements for conducting a homeschool in Georgia and commit to adhering to the state’s educational standards.
Below are the details of our homeschool:
We acknowledge that as part of our responsibilities, we will:
- Provide a basic educational program that includes, but is not limited to, reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.
- Ensure that the home study program operates on a regular basis, for at least 4.5 hours a day for 180 days each school year.
- Maintain attendance records and submit an annual progress report evaluating the student's academic progress in each of the previously mentioned subject areas.
We affirm that the information provided in this letter of intent is accurate to the best of our knowledge and we recognize our ongoing obligation to comply with the Georgia Home Study Law requirements.
